Your thoughtful essays are not always easy to sit with as I start my day. But these are not easy days for any of us. And so, this discussion of the slow erasure of the Entwives left me with a profound sadness. Futility, even.

My take though, is shot through with something akin to optimism. I am of a mind that we, as modern women, do in fact remember who taught us and when and why. We, in turn, hand those lessons to the next generation into infinity. We are nothinig but the great remembering of All Things and that is why we are feared. Even in today's surge in misogynistic posturing and backward-thinking legislating (SAFE Act), women continue to resist and resist mightily. It's in our very DNA. Where Tolkien sent the Entwives into the mists of the ages, my sense is that today's Entwives refuse to be forgotten. Though history may diminish or purposefully overlook the accomplishments and contributions of half the world's population, we never forget. Ours are voices that cannot be stilled, even as the tide of darkness rises. It will ebb, and we will remain.

Thank you for always getting me thinking, Genny.
